Room By Room Spring Cleaning Guide

Whole House Prep

 

Before diving into individual rooms:

• Supplies to Gather:

• Microfiber cloths

• All-purpose cleaner

• Vacuum with attachments

• Mop and bucket

• Broom and dustpan

• Sponges and scrub brushes

• Garbage bags

• Gloves

• Duster (extendable for ceilings and fans)

• Start with Decluttering: Go room by room with a donation box and trash bag. Less clutter = easier cleaning.

 

 

1. Living Room / Family Room

• Dust everything: Shelves, baseboards, picture frames, décor, electronics (including behind the TV), lampshades.

• Vacuum upholstery: Remove cushions, vacuum under them and between creases.

• Wash blankets and pillow covers.

• Clean windows and window sills.

• Wipe down all surfaces: Coffee tables, end tables, entertainment center.

• Vacuum floors and mop if hardwood or tile.

• Clean ceiling fans and light fixtures.

• Check smoke detectors and change batteries if needed.

 

 

2. Kitchen

• Fridge & Freezer:

• Toss expired food.

• Wipe down shelves and drawers.

• Pull it out and vacuum the coils and clean behind/under it.

• Pantry:

• Remove everything.

• Wipe shelves.

• Check expiration dates.

• Reorganize by categories.

• Cabinets & Drawers:

• Wipe inside and outside.

• Organize and declutter unused gadgets.

• Stove & Oven:

• Clean oven (use self-cleaning if available or baking soda paste).

• Clean burners, knobs, hood filters, and under the stovetop if possible.

• Microwave:

• Steam clean: microwave a bowl of water and lemon juice for 5 min, then wipe clean.

• Sink:

• Scrub with baking soda or a sink cleaner.

• Sanitize garbage disposal with vinegar and ice cubes.

• Countertops: Disinfect and declutter.

• Floors: Sweep and mop thoroughly.

 

 

3. Bedrooms

• Declutter closets:

• Donate clothes you haven’t worn in a year.

• Organize by type/season.

• Wipe down closet shelves and vacuum floors.

• Flip and rotate mattress. Vacuum the mattress too.

• Wash all bedding, including pillows and mattress protectors.

• Dust: Baseboards, furniture, ceiling fan, lamps.

• Clean windows and sills.

• Vacuum and mop (if applicable).

 

 

4. Bathrooms

• Shower/Bath:

• Scrub tiles and grout.

• Wash or replace shower curtain and liner.

• Clean showerhead (soak in vinegar overnight).

• Toilet: Scrub inside and wipe down all surfaces.

• Sink and Counter: Disinfect and declutter.

• Mirrors: Use glass cleaner or vinegar solution.

• Cabinets/Drawers: Declutter expired meds and toiletries, wipe inside.

• Floors: Mop thoroughly, paying attention to corners.

 

 

5. Entryway / Mudroom

• Declutter shoes and outerwear.

• Wipe down door handles and light switches.

• Clean floor mats or replace if worn.

• Sweep and mop floors.

• Clean front door (inside and out).

 

 

6. Laundry Room

• Clean behind/under washer & dryer.

• Wipe machines down.

• Run a cleaning cycle (or vinegar/baking soda) through washer.

• Empty and clean lint trap.

• Organize supplies.

 

 

7. Office or Workspace

• Sort through papers and shred what’s not needed.

• Dust computer, printer, shelves.

• Wipe keyboard and mouse with alcohol wipes.

• Vacuum or sweep/mop floors.

• Organize cords and label if needed.

 

 

8. Bonus: Outside Areas

• Clean patio furniture.

• Sweep porch or deck.

• Wash windows outside.

• Clean out gutters.

• Power wash exterior if needed.
